Listing products can be a daunting task. However, it doesn’t need to be. Whether you are new to Etsy or have already have an Etsy account and are struggling to create captivating listings then you are at the right place. This blog will help you create product listings on Etsy.
When you create product listings on Etsy there are four main points that you will need to focus on. These four key areas are media, product titles, product descriptions and tags. These four key points will be explained below.
1.Media in the forms of pictures and or video

If you are no photographer then without a doubt you will find yourself struggling with the first step.
The media you use really does have a great impact on the results of your listing. There are a few ways you can tackle this issue.
The first option which would be the most obvious is to find a photographer to take product photos for you. However, this can come at very high prices and can become timely.
Additionally, if you are on low budget and are eager to learn there are a few tips and tricks you can learn to make the process easier and more effective.
What you will need:
Don’t have a camera? No problem. Any of the latest smart phones will do.
You will need a tripod to eliminate the shakes and keep consistent angles. These you can find online for very cheap prices.
A room with good lighting or a window with direct light.
White bounce boards or just normal white paper.
If you don’t have an ideal background, you can use Canva Pro to remove backgrounds to create clean images. You can also add your ideal backgrounds to Canva. If you want more information on the benefits of Canva pro you can read my blog here.

2. Product titles

What is a product title? To put it simply it is the text that will appear above your product and will help catch customers attention.
Product titles don’t need to be as complicated as the internet makes it out to be. You don’t need to be a SEO expert neither.
Let’s say for example you are selling genuine leather tote bags. If you were looking for a leather tote bag on Etsy what would you type in the search bar. Probably somewhere along the lines of “genuine leather tote bags”. If you wanted one specifically with a zip closure then you may go into more detains such as “Leather Tote bag with Zip”.

Keep our example in mind and here are 3 Key factors when creating your product titles.
Key factor 1: Use a variety of key “phrases”
Etsy allows your product title to be up to 140 characters long so use it. The word “phrases” is used and not “keywords” is because I have found that using singular words in your title doesn’t help much at all. The most optimal phrases should consist of 3 words.
Don’t be shy to use a variety of phrases, you don’t have to repeat the same words over and over again. This is an impression that SEO sometimes gives off. Think about the key attributes of your product and show them off.

The gifting market has been growing rapidly so sometimes it can help to add that into the title so people looking to buy gifts can find your product.
Key factor 2: The first 2 Key phrases matter most.
The reason why this key factor is important is because when the customers are browsing the products that showed up in the search results, they will only be able to view the first 40 characters. So, these first 40 characters have to be the most captivating and relevant.
The customer will only see the rest of your titles if they decide to click on your product listing.
Key factor 3: Make sure your English skills are on point and avoid overselling.
What do I mean by this? Use title case and leave a comma between each key phrase.
Avoid using all caps and dashes between your key phrases as it generally looks unprofessional and “over the top”.
Don’t try and oversell your product by writing Key phrases such as BEST TOTE BAG or LATEST IN FASHION.
For example: Leather Tote bag, Genuine Leather Tote, Tote with Zip Closure, Full Grain Leather, Gift for her.
3. Product Descriptions
When it comes to online shopping, product descriptions are extremely important. Because a customer is not physically able to assess your product you need to give them the cues to assess it without seeing or feeling it.
Once again you don’t need to be a writer or a copy writer you just need to be truthful. Create your own voice and address the customer directly.
In your product write up just explain the following features of your product.
- Size
- Material
- Style
- Other attributes of the product.
The size material and style are very self-explanatory but for other attributes you can use this one trick.
If we look back to our example our leather tote bag has a zipper closure. So instead of just saying it has a zipper closure try explain what problems that attribute solves. We could write it something like this: “Are you constantly worried about your valuables falling out your bag? Don’t worry, we have you covered with our zipper closure.”

4. Tags
Tags are important as it is the link between what customers search and how they will find your products. It is a very similar concept to product titles but you can use tags to get your listing in front of the right customers.
Just as mentioned in product titles, don’t be afraid to use phrases and not just singular words. I suggest you add your product titles into your tags and then add some additional phrases that you feel your ideal customer will type into the search bar.

If you’re like most Etsy sellers, you’re probably anxious to start selling your products. But before you do, there are a few things you need to do first. One of these things is creating product listings. Product listings are essential for your Etsy shop, because they help you sell your products more easily and attract more customers.
You can also add images to your product listings, if you’d like. And finally, you can choose a category for your product listing. This will help people find your products more easily. Creating product listings is easy – all you need to do is fill out the form on Etsy’s product listing page and hit “submit.
Don’t feel overwhelmed by all the information online. Just take things step by step.
